Caffeine
Does anybody know the reason why caffeine is not permitted? Have youever tried Italian espresso? It’s the way we wake up every morning, soit’s really hard work for me without it. But… if there is a specialreason I may try to stop drinking it, just for a while.I’d like to thank you all as I’ve read all the letters since thebeginning, also because I wanted to understand better how the dietworked. What I realized is that sometimes it is really hard going onalone through this path towards healthy eating, but together it can benot only possible, also enjoyable. Please, everybody, hold on anddon’t give up; I started one week ago and I’ve already lost 3 lbs (1,5kg), which can seem not much, but on me it’s a lot (my weight is about130 and I’m 1,64 m tall - sorry I don’t know how much it is in yourmeasure units - i’ll find it). I only have a little problem: I got abit constipation because of the change of food. Do you have any adviceabout that? Thanks a lotbye and let’s win our challenge!!
Caffeine supposedly increases your chance of cravings. When I started the diet Idecided Icouldn’t live without my morning Diet Coke. I kept drinking it and didn’t noticeanycravings. However, for those of us that get our caffeine from soda, you need tobe carefulof the sodium in the soda. The sodium will slow down weight loss due to waterretention. I don’t know enough about espresso to tell you if you’ll have aproblem besidesthe ‘craving’ possibility. Does italian espresso have sugar in it?
I can’t help with the constipation. I was ‘very regular’ before the diet, sogoing on the dietdid slow my system down, but really made me ‘normal’.
Caffeine allegedly causes cravings and that is why it’s limited. He states in the book that you can have a cup or 2 per day, so I would think that your morning espresso should be fine. I, personally, will never give up my coffee unless my doctor specifically forbids it. I use coffee medicinally for my asthma, prediabetes, and for a rare neurological condition. I’m aware of the positive and negative side effects, but the negatives are still far better than the negatives the medication they would put me back on would have.
Caffeine makes the blood sugar spike, as well…aspartame does, also.
Dr. A did say in the book that he wouldnt take caffeine away form people, but I drink decaf and am fine with it. I weaned myself off of it while onAtkins, mixing coffee half and half, regular and decaf. Eventually, justwent to decaf.
