Cooking tips for SBD
For those who are on the South Beach Diet many low carb recipes are acceptable. The main modifications must be in the area of saturated fat - butter, cream, cheese, and fatty meat. Besides, some foods that are forbidden in the same quantities in some other low carb diets, are allows by the South Beach meal plan, for example, beans other than soybeans, and small amounts of whole grain foods.
So find some tips for South Beach cooking:
- Use nonfat of 1% milk, ot unsweetened soy milk instead of cream.
- Use whole grain flour or bean flour as a thickener for sauces.
- You can use small amounts of Parmesan cheese and feta cheese, but other cheeses must be low-fat.
- Use ground sirloin, turkey breast, or chicken breast in place of hamburger.
- Use approved cuts of meat.
- Use oil in place of butter.
- Add small amounts of whole grain pastas after Phase 1.
