Juicing
I would be interested in your thoughts on juicing. As I understand it, youare removing the fiber and that is what we get so little of on Atkins. So ineffect, you are concentrating your calories and removing fiber. That is why Ihave never used a juicer. Please explain and give recipes if you like whatyou make and think it wise to include in a low carb diet.
I think it depends on what KIND of juicer you have - I have a Champion, whichleaves IN most of the fiber (but haven’t used it since being on Atkins) andREALLY WANT TO!!!!!!!!!! I miss having fresh veg. juice more than anything!!!
I have a juicer and used to go on juice fasts many years ago. It isvery healthy, but you have to watch your portions on the Atkinsregime. Not sure which plan anyone else is on.
you areright about the fiber. It ends up in the juicer when you clean outthe filter!
You would have to get your fiber from something else, for sure. Atleast you would know that your concoctions do not have ADDED sugarsin them, just the natural ones.
When my bird broke off his beak, I used the juicer to juicehis carrots and apples for a month until it grew back (like a fingernail). Long story, made short! He is fine. That is the only reason Ikeep cornstarch in my house now ~ as an anticoagulant for emergencies.
You are right that you will be removing some of the fiber while juicing. However, the benefits far outweigh this, as far as I am concerned. Of course, juicing on a low-carb diet may be difficult. The great thing for us as a family is that we know our bodies can take up a huge amount of nutrients virtually effortlessly. The same simply just doesn’t happen when you eat it in the normal way. The other thing is that it is filling and low in calories. It can also help you to get over a sugar craving. The health benefits are phenomenal. My dad’s blood pressure has come way down, for example. I love my juicer and won’t allow any diet to replace it!
