Mexican food on SB Diet
If you think that you can’t eat your favorite Mexican food because of the South Beach Diet - you’re wrong! Just a few modifications and you can say yes to eating Mexican food on any Phase on the diet.
Actually the main problem at many Mexican restaurants is that the food is in out-of-control portions and contains bad fats.
In fact you can eat all your favorite meals, just order the meats and vegetables you usually take on all types of entrees like fajitas or tacos. You can even eat whole-wheat tortilla. But if you are in Phase 1 - leave them off. Some restaurants today even offer special menu items like a low-carb burrito.
On Phase 2 you can freely use black beans as well as a salad with salsa for all Phases. Guacamole is also allowed because avocado is considered a “good fat”.
Order a dish of grilled chicken or fish. But make sure the chicken is without cheese on top because it’s certain to be full-fat. Grilled chicken in a very spicy sauce is also acceptable.
Forbidden Foods
- Tortilla chips, crunchy deep-fried corn.
- Sour cream.
- Refried beans. Although they may be protein-sources, they are usually cooked with animal fats and topped with full-fat cheese so they’re not good for you.
- Chimichangas and taco salad shells.
