Pre planning days

Do you all pre-plan your meals the day before you eat them? If so, doyou find this helps you stick to plan? I don’t, and I wonder if itwould help.

I don’t.Smacks too much of obssession to me.Doesn’t allow for spontaneous eating out….which is a big part ofmy life.Eating out is actually not a problem for me.There’s a gal on the Aussie list who shops and plans on afortnightly basis. It works for her, but she lives alone. She also devotes an inordinate amount of time to planning andshopping.I really have more important things to do with my time.Because money is an issue for her, she manages to travel all overtown ( and it’s a BIG town), hunting down bargains.

I’m on another list where we are posting menus.I post mine at the end of the day. Many others are posting their planned menus. Now, if I failed to stick to it I would feel bad.

Having said that, I’m searching for an old food journal from thedays where I was successful…..

I don’t. The only one I should preplan at the moment is breakfast, onlybecause I’m in a bit of a rut about it!

I’m a “semi” pre planner. However, I don’t plan Sunday to Saturday. I planWednesday to Tuesday, because Wednesday is when I can get the best meatprices at the grocery store.

I plan three LARGE dishes, such as a big pot roast or pork roast, bonelessleg of lamb (cheap at Sam’s Club), a big batch of some kind of chicken, etc., that will make plenty of leftovers, and a couple of smaller, quickermeals such as pork chops, cube steaks, shrimp, etc.

Wednesday night dinner I’ll cook one of my quick meals, or we’ll eat out, then crockpot one of my big meals for Thursday, same for Friday. That waywe have leftovers for quick meals on the weekends, or I can cook one of myquicker meals.

I’ll crockpot another big meal for Monday, Tuesday we’ll either eatleftovers or eat out, etc.

The reason I arrange my week this way is that my husband works odd hours anda lot of overtime, so we may or may not eat dinner together. Thecrockpotted meals reheat well, I work at home and will eat leftovers forlunches. It also gives us the flexibility to eat out if we want.

So I do plan to that extent, but I tend to plan more loosely, based on whatlooks good and is a good price at the grocery store. I’m more spontaneouswith veggies, buy what looks good and fresh.

By planning ahead, I make sure I’ve got leftovers in the house for quick lowcarb meals so I can always have a good hot lunch without a lot of trouble, and I save a LOT of money.

hen I first started Atkins, I absolutely positively had to plan out at leastthe meats for about 4 days ahead — I think it really helped me. Since I wasalso “relearning” how to put dinner on the table, I knew that if I was havingxyz meat on Tuesday, then I had some time to find a recipe.

Now I’m down to working out 2 or 3 days ahead, but that’s because I need toget something out of the freezer.

I always know there’s a salad involved, and picking a vegetable (frozen)doesn’t seem to be a problem for me.

If you know what you’re going to have, then you can make sure you have allthe ingredients to make it, too.

I don’t always pre-plan because some days you just don’t know how it’s going togo. LOL BUT I do try to plan the night before (I make a to-do list and that’son it) and it does make the day so much easier. I find that when I have figuredout the night before exactly what I will eat, it eliminates that wanderingaround the kitchen looking for “something”. Food no longer is a central focus.
