SB Diet and caffeine
Although one of the main effects of caffeine is that it stimulates a leap of insulin but the latest studies indicated that people who use more coffee are less subject to diabetes. So, if you don’t exceed the limit of one cup a day, tea, coffee or caffeinated sugarfree sodas are accepted on the South Beach Diet. Use caffeine in moderation because:
- It has addictive influence on the brain and the kidneys.
- It possesses diuretic features, and is a dehydrating agent.
- Caffeine causes the pancreas to produce insulin, which can stimulate unhealthy cravings. That’s why it is forbidden during Phase 1. For the rest of the diet you can enjoy 1 morning cup and then use decaf.
- As to caffeine-containing sodas they stimulate weight gain due to the fact that the feeling of thirst forced by caffeine is often considered to be hunger.
The South Beach Diet allows you to eat as much as you want, so you can enjoy drinking coffee. Besides, it can lift your metabolism high, and that is a good for the diet. Of course, don’t add sugar, use artificial sweetener instead.
The limitation is one coffee drink per day. Drink a lot of water because water or pure fruit juice are the best and healthiest diet drinks. They quench thirst and contain no calories, plus they have beneficial metabolic and physiological effects.
