What Is Glycemic Index
Glycemic Index (GI Index) is a ranking of carbohydrates from 0 to 100 in accordance to the extent to which they increase blood sugar levels. It counts how the glucose level raises after eating. Low Glycemic Index food (less than 55) causes small increase of blood sugar and insulin level. Foods with GI index 55-70 are intermediate-GI foods. High Glycemic Index food (more than 70) on its turn quickly raises our blood sugar and insulin levels.
It was proved that low GI foods can improve glucose and lipid levels in people who suffer with diabetes, control your weight because it help control the feeling of hunger, decrease insulin levels and insulin resistance and prevent heart disease.
